(SF)2: DESIGN begins

Scott and I share a love for the 3D art world/craft, It seemed only natural to pair up and collaborate, so we did.
Glass blower boy + metals/jewelry girl + love = (SF)2: Design

We started developing the idea during my extended visits to Columbus, Ohio. Scott is a cane man: To us non-glass people that means that LINE and COLOR are kind of his thaaaang. Cane can be glass rods/sticks of color or patterns. Patterns can be a mix of thin lines of color then twisted while hot. Anyway, Scott has a TON of cane that he's made over the last few years of various colors and styles. I was drawn to them and instantly started brainstorming ways to use them.
We started torching the canes, melting them into drops and custom fitting them into metal coils WITHOUT glue or adhesive. Then matching them with chains or ear wires.
Scott has had to make some cane for us and for that he has to be in the hot shop with all the large furnaces, kilns, etc. Thankfully most of the time, we have the canes and can torch them elsewhere. In Columbus, we'd sit in his living room, each with our own torch and melt glass (i do not recommend this. safety first.).
Pricing is hard for both of us to figure out. HANDMADE is expensive because of the time/labor that goes into it from someone who loves the craft and is trying to do what they love while making some sort of profit. Scott and I both have had tendencies to underprice our one-of-a-kind work during school. The public tends to have a set price range in their minds and when you ask for what a piece deserves, it's unreasonable to them despite the blood, sweat and tears you may have spent in labor. This production jewelry collection was important for us to be affordable to everyone. We know that it's probably underpriced but we'd rather share our art with a more general audience. One of our main goals for this collaboration is to make affordable handmade products.

We've mainly sold to family and friends especially around the holidays but are optimistic about the possibilities of reaching more people. Our Etsy site has not been successful but our Supermarket store has gotten a few orders! It makes us incredibly happy when people like our work. Scott had a booth of our work at a Columbus craft show where we only sold 1 necklace but you gotta start somewhere!

We're learning so many things along the way. We hope to continue to make our products for people who like them. It makes us happy to have the chance to do what we love together.

Seattle

the glass boy from Ohio

From the moment I saw him, i was smitten.

I knew i had found the perfect man for me after he said he had accidently set his beard on fire before... the only thing was that he lived in Ohio (7.5 hours away).

I thought it was over... just a brief moment with the man of my dreams.
Nope. We ended up working together at a music festival: having an amazing weekend in VA beach, listening to live music on the boardwalk and enjoying each other's company.

Then I started making random/long visits to Coumbus, Ohio. Yes, call me crazy for doing that drive several times but i think it's romantic. When he would come to Maryland, everyone loved him! He had plans to move to Seattle since before we met so he did early Dec with the plans that i would visit.

Things for Scott and I always seem to work out eventually. Our relationship has been on fast forward since we met. We met August 23rd (1st day of Buyers Market) and I moved out to Seattle December 27th. Whoa.

Yep. You read that right. Things sort of fell into place not as we planned but it worked out. We were across the country from each other for a few weeks but now we live together in the beautiful Capitol Hill area of Seattle, WA.
I think it's all truly romantic... and crazy.

the boy from Buyers Market

BUYERS MARKET:
At the end of day 1 of the craft show, the girls and i were walking out of the convention center to the parking lot when I noticed 2 guys walking out behind us. I remember saying "the long haired boy is mine", joking to my friend Danielle. They got in their UHaul truck before us and the "long haired boy" joked about running us over.

Day 2.: I found that smart ass boy driving the Uhaul. He was assisting his buddy, Cody... they were glass boys.
Meet Scott A. Fouche- sarcastic smart ass, glass blower, good man.
[picture was taken with my phone after he let Danielle and i do his hair with our crazy spiral bobby pins]

Danielle and I loved walking the show during slow times (most of the time) to talk to fellow artists and admire their work. We were in the jewelry section and rarely left our section of interest until we found the glass boys.
We would visit the guys in the glass section, they would come visit us. Danielle and i were usually hyped up on coffee/expresso, it's a miracle those boys didn't run away.
Our interactions consisted of mainly inappropriate movie quotes from Wedding Crashers, Anchorman, etc for the next 2 days.
After break down, we went to say goodbye to our new friends but sadly their stuff was all packed up and gone. Sadly, we walked back to our booth to finish packing up when we saw them. Scott and I made sure to leave with a friendly hug and sarcastic jokes but no # exchange. He was from Columbus, Ohio and I lived in Maryland, what was the point?

He found me on FB and we exchanged #s. we planned to hang out before they went back to ohio. I was having a late studio night when Scott called, they wouldn't get back until late but he still wanted to hang out. I was a mess from working, it was late, etc etc but i went with my gut instinct and said yes.

That's how it all started.
