broken pieces

week 1: spring semester
New progress on this piece:
Since the pieces are fragile, i wanted to make a strong. sturdy frame to incase them while giving it a gestural feel.

winter break

Winter break was a time for me to work, sleep, breath and i practiced my welding with my favorite pattern. I found myself drawing it over and over again.

I welded the pattern flat but then i started adding more dimension with certain wires.(bottom section)
pierced, welded sheet steel!

fail

Failure from last semester:
I have soldered this ring way too many times and the silver became brittle. there were too many failed attempts. I think it's going in the scrap pile. I made the 2 lamb rings after this one so it wasn't nothing.

welcome spring semester

BRAND NEW WORK FOR THE SPRING SEMESTER:
week 1

more finds

Over winter break I also found this unique book store where they sold new& used books and even old art exhibition catalogs! They had a huge art section and a very little jewelry section but i found a few things in the art section that applied to craft. The aisles were tight with overcrowded bookshelves that stretched from floor to ceiling. There were even random piles of books in the aisles. i did a clean sweep of the entire art section and found a few treasures.

[This old Antique jewelry book has descrip
tions of techniques, styles, etc but there's no pictures or illustrations. There is a cool inscription in the front.]

[Another cool little find was this "making hand wrought sterling silver jewelry" booklet.]

Flowers and Folklore from Far Korea

collecting

Over break i went to an antique shop and found come cool things. I found this cast iron stand with 3 shoe forms for $7! I thought it would be useful for forming metal like stakes but much cheaper. I also found 2 hammers for $4, now that's a deal.

home studio

This is the corner designated to my jewelry/metalsmithing projects. I just set it up with my little table top workbench! It's not much but it's getting there. the lighting is dim with a pink tint (thanks to the paint) and space is an issue but it's mine, all mine. I took the picture right after i finished my first at home project :) so it's messy. I need to tweak a few things but i think it will be okay for getting extra work done at home. For example, drilling holes with a dremel on the floor is not something i'm used to. haha thanks to an extension cord that did not extend far enough.

Treehouse necklaces
late Christmas gifts for the group of girls i've been friends with since middle school
[my very first project 95% done at home. they are simple but i like them.]
